How to Help
Help us find a
treatment or prevention for a terrible disease.
'We urgently need to invest
in medical research into Alzheimer's disease to ensure a quality of life for
our ageing population and those individuals who are tragically struck by this
disease in mid-life. We can only achieve this with your help'
The Countess of Onslow, President
Over half a million people currently
suffer from Alzheimer's disease in the UK, of which approximately 17,000 are
under 65. The financial cost of this disease represents and enormous drain on valuable NHS resources.
The Alzheimer's Research Trust (ART),
launched in 1993, is a national charity that promotes research into the causal
mechanisms of neuro-degenerative disease (AD) and similar diseases and disseminates
the results of this research.
You can help Alzheimer's
Research Trust in a number of different ways as you will see below.
Your support is vital to us, and every little helps.
Personal Help
- A Donation may be made
by sending a cheque, postal order or your credit card details. To print a
form, click here to download the document and then press 'file' and 'print'
on your menu bar. If you are a UK taxpayer the charity can claim tax
on your donation (Gift Aid) thereby enhancing your already valuable gift.
- Gift Aid - From 6 April
2000, new rules for Gift Aid apply which makes giving to charity even
easier. The main changes are:
- removal of the previous minimum
of £250 for Gift Aid, enabling the charity to reclaim tax on all donations
regardless of the amount
- a single certificate stating
that all donations can be treated as Gift Aid donations will authorise us to
reclaim tax.
- you can register with us for
the new scheme either by recording your details now - click here
to download a form - or by calling us on 01223 843899.
- Regular donations
are an important source of charity income. They help the Trust to make
long term commitments - vital for scientific programmes. Click here
to download a Standing Order form.
- Payroll Giving, first
introduced in the 1987 Budget as a tax-efficient and easy way to give
valuable support to charity, has also been given a kick-start in the 2000
Budget. The Chancellor has pledged that for every £1 donated through
this scheme, the government will give a further 10% to the charity for a
period of up to three years. In some cases this could mean that the
charity could benefit by up to a further 50p in the £1.
As the donation is made through deduction in the payroll before tax, a
donation of £10 per month will actually only cost £7.80 from 6
April. In addition the upper monetary level for this scheme has been
removed so you can now contribute as much as you like! If you would
like further information as to how to join this scheme, please email us on azt@btinternet.com

As of 1st April 2000, companies no longer have to deduct and account for
income tax on their donations, and as the donation is made gross, charities no longer have to reclaim tax from the Inland Revenue on these
donations. This includes donations made by charity subsidiary
companies.
